Manchester punk band formed in 1976 by Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto after they saw the Sex Pistols. Pairing buzzsaw guitars with concise, lovelorn pop hooks ('Ever Fallen in Love', 'What Do I Get?'), they invented the melodic template that pop-punk would follow for decades.
