Tomas Luis de Victoria

Spain, 1569–1611

Spanish composer and priest (c. 1548-1611). Trained in Rome and later chaplain to the Dowager Empress in Madrid, he wrote nothing secular; the Officium Defunctorum of 1605 is the severest and most concentrated music of the Counter-Reformation.
