San Diego band led by Scott Weiland, formed in 1989. Core ('Plush', 'Creep') and Purple made them one of the biggest alt-rock acts of the '90s; from grunge beginnings they broadened into glam- and psych-tinged hard rock, powered by Weiland's chameleonic voice and the DeLeo brothers' riffs.
