Alternative rock band formed in Dundee in 1994 around Northern Irish singer Gary Lightbody. After years underground they broke through with Final Straw and Eyes Open ('Run', 'Chasing Cars'), a widescreen anthemic sound owing much to R.E.M. and U2.
