German band formed in Berlin in 1994, the defining act of Neue Deutsche Härte. Fusing down-tuned metal riffs, industrial electronics and Till Lindemann's rolled, guttural German vocals, with famously pyrotechnic live shows, they broke through with Herzeleid and Sehnsucht ('Du Hast') and became the most successful German-language band worldwide.

• Laibach — Rammstein have openly named Laibach as their initial source of inspiration — Laibach's martial rhythms, totalitarian imagery and deadpan provocation are the template for Rammstein's Neue Deutsche Härte.
