Ethiopian vibraphonist and arranger (b. 1943), the father of ethio-jazz. Trained in London and Boston, he fused Ethiopian pentatonic modes with jazz harmony and Latin percussion, a sound rediscovered worldwide through the Ethiopiques series and Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers.
