American singer and pianist from Columbus, Ohio, who plays by ear and has never stopped. At twenty he became Ira Gershwin's assistant and spent six years cataloguing the brothers' unpublished sheet music and lost recordings in the lyricist's house. He has been the archivist and the interpreter of the Great American Songbook ever since, and founded a foundation to keep it.
