American band formed in Bakersfield, California in 1993. Widely credited with pioneering the nu-metal genre, fusing down-tuned, groove-metal guitars with hip-hop rhythms, funk basslines and Jonathan Davis's alternately screamed and vulnerable vocals. Their self-titled 1994 debut is considered the genre's founding album.
