New Jersey band founded in 1964 by Robert 'Kool' Bell. Jazz-schooled but as funky as James Brown, they moved from raw '70s funk ('Jungle Boogie', 'Funky Stuff') to polished crossover hits ('Celebration', 'Ladies' Night') that spanned funk, disco and pop.
