Japanese composer (b. 1950), inseparable from Hayao Miyazaki's films. Trained in minimalism, he built a style of simple, endlessly repeating melodic cells opening into full orchestral warmth - the sound of My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away.
