Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis
USA, 1982–now
James Harris III and Terry Lewis, the Minneapolis production duo. Prince put them out of the Time for missing a show; they went on to build Control and Rhythm Nation 1814 with Janet Jackson and to write and produce for most of black American pop for the next twenty years - hard, dry drum programming with the low end left open and the vocal set close.
