GAS

Germany, 1995–now

Wolfgang Voigt's best-known alias, and the founder of Kompakt working under it. He takes small samples of Austro-German classical records, brass bands and Schlager and puts them through what he calls zoom, loop and alienation - a four-to-the-floor kick buried under an orchestral fog, made to bring the disco into the forest and the forest into the disco. The covers are his own photographs of the woods outside Cologne he walked through on LSD as a teenager.
