Cutting Crew

London band formed in 1985 by the English singer Nick Van Eede and the Canadian guitarist Kevin MacMichael, who had met when their earlier bands shared a bill in Nova Scotia. Their first single '(I Just) Died in Your Arms' reached number one in the United States in 1987, and the band was nominated for the Grammy for Best New Artist.

• The Beatles — MacMichael arrived in the band having played guitar in a Nova Scotia Beatles covers group and learned more than two hundred of their songs. Van Eede wrote to that enthusiasm: he has described 'Silhouette' as deliberately Beatlesque because of it, and has compared the construction of '(I Just) Died in Your Arms' to 'Help!'.
