Conny Plank
Germany, 1968–1987
German producer and engineer (1940-1987) whose studio near Cologne is where much of krautrock and European electronic pop was actually made — Kraftwerk, Neu!, Cluster, Can, DAF, Ultravox, Eurythmics. He treated the desk as an instrument and pushed the bands he recorded further out than they arrived.
MusicRoots documents 1 artist who influenced Conny Plank and 1 artist Conny Plank influenced in turn. Every connection cites a published source.
Who influenced Conny Plank?
- Karlheinz Stockhausen — Plank was Stockhausen's assistant and recorded him — which is how a studio engineer arrived at krautrock already believing the desk was an instrument.
Which artists did Conny Plank influence?
- Eurythmics — Plank is how the duo found the German avant-garde at all. Meeting him took two ex-Tourists straight to the tradition their first records were built out of.
