Cuban-American singer (1925-2003), the Queen of Salsa. Lead voice of La Sonora Matancera from 1950, she left Cuba in 1960 and never returned; in New York she made salsa with Tito Puente, Johnny Pacheco and the Fania All-Stars, and sang for another forty years.
