Arnold Mendelssohn

Germany, 1880–1933

German composer and teacher (1855-1933), full name Arnold Ludwig Mendelssohn and a great-nephew of Felix Mendelssohn's generation of the family. A lawyer turned church musician, he led the revival of Bach and Schutz in Lutheran music and taught composition in Darmstadt and Frankfurt, where his pupils included the young Paul Hindemith.
