Italian violinist, violist and teacher (1757-1841), long the leader at La Scala and professor at the Milan Conservatory. Left-hand pizzicato, chromatic runs and playing high on the string were his before they were anyone's, and his reputation now rests on the boy he taught for a few months in 1795.
